Garden Plenty

Had green beans fresh from the garden for dinner the other night and I got to go out and pick them! There's something actually really cool about digging in the big bush (cuz these are the kind of green beans that grow in a bush shape rather than on a vine) and I'm going to miss all the fresh produce and greenery when I move into the new apartment in August. Never fear though, I'm already planning how to fit a garden into our little balcony!

Green bean bush.

Baby green beans

Picked green beans! Yum!

Below is a (not very well lit and kinda fuzzy) pic of my outfit yesterday. I've been in a bit of a fashion slump lately, but Wednesday I pulled out the leather jacket and blue tights and some old shoes I wore as Aunt Eller in the school play in 6th grade and voila!

Sea World

On Thursday, my family and I took the day off and spent a sunny mini-vacation in See World! Before I get to that though, I just had to post pics of this amazing vintage belt.  The rope part is stretchy so you can wear it around the waist or hips.  Love it!!!

Side view

Such a cute seal - much more quiet then the sea lions barking like airhorns right next door.

I had to get a shot of this bird - it reminds me of a lady wearing a white feathered dress with black stockings and yellow shoes.

Shoes like these!

Penguins: my favorite animal.
Besides kolas and dogs that is...

We got really lucky in the Arctic exhibit - a polar bear walked right up and decided to sun itself right in front of us!

More Weddings!

Yesterday was my parents' 25th anniversary. Hooray! Go Mommy and Daddy!  They're taking the weekend off and going on a romantic tour of LA - my dad spent all last weekend planning it. So cute.  Last night we took out their wedding binder and amongst a bazillion pictures of my parents and grandparents and all their friends was this pic of my great Auntie Midge.

What a glamazon!  Reminds me very much of another fashionable wedding attendee... If you fast forwarded 25 years of course...

Aww!  My parents are SOO adorable! P.S. check out my mom's bouquet!

Summer Wedding

So yesterday my cousin got married!  It was a gorgeous, blue-skied day at La Jolla Shores. The weather was just perfect.  Of course it was, it was a wedding day!  I'd never actually driven through La Jolla before, and I have to say, it was SO cute!  I really need to take a long lunch one of these days and check out all the little restaurants and boutiques.  Plus, the sea air never fails to fill my lungs with endless possibilities!

My sister and I both wore some of my designs to the ceremony.  Little flowered dresses=perfect for a summer wedding. I don't have any pictures of us from yesterday (we were too busy looking at the bride!) but below are both frocks from a photoshoot earlier this year with my darling friend Patrick. We wore both with little white cardigans.

Julian Adventure

Yesterday, my family got together to go on a little adventure to Julian, a small town up in the inland hills of SoCal.  The road we took to get there (an extension of the 78 I think?) was absolutely gorgeous - acres upon acres of rolling hill studded with oaks and cows and the occasional barbed wire fence.  We made the mandatory stop at Dudley's bakery (the best bread I have ever tasted - see picture!) and munched on perfect bear claw pastries before arriving at my grandparents' campsite up in Heise Park.  We decided to take a 3 mile hike up to a view point overlooking the sprawling valley (lush green but studded with the oddly picturesque remains of the last wildfire) on one side and the desert on the other, stretching away to the very visible Salton Sea.  The hike was beautiful and pretty easy except for the first part which was rather steep and I hadn't adjusted to the altitude change yet.  Later, my mom and dad and I took off to find the nearby pond that was on our map but it had long since been filled with vegetation, especially poison oak!  It was a lovely day, and I really want to go back and spend some time in Wynola, (a little town we passed on the way there) it was so quaint and rustic, perfect for a memorable escape from a work-filled week.

Oatmeal.  Does that seem like an odd way to begin a blog entitled "Everything Splendid?" If anything, oatmeal does not look splendid. It looks a bit like squashed brains.  However, one thing I have discovered during my 9 to 5 stint in front of a computer during the week is that the simple things in life can really make your day.  I was taught in my Nutrition class that cereal is the wonder food.  Not so.  You eat cereal for breakfast and 2 hours later you're so hungry that the extra cookie/granola bar/candy that you had lying around is GONE.  Definitely not what the dieter desires. Yesterday, however, I opted for a cup of oatmeal.  5 hours later I was still barely peckish!  Splendid? Hmm...it's a matter of opinion.  But it does make me smile.
